How do single pocket door kits work?
Rather than swinging outwards and inwards like traditional hinged doors, single pocket door kits allow for the installation of pocket doors which slide from left to right (and vice versa) to open and close said door. The pocket door “disappears” into a pre-made cavity within the wall space where the door frame is fitted, creating the illusion of a vanishing and re-appearing door. Can I use any pocket door with the Glide Single Pocket Door Kit?
While the Glide Single Pocket Door Kit is designed to be adjustable, allowing for the installation of many bespoke-sized pocket doors, there are of course limitations as to which doors can be installed using the system. Beyond the obvious sizing restraints (see the product details if you’re unsure) the kit cannot be used with doors heavier than 90kg. This is because this pocket door kit has been designed to withstand weights of up to 90kg and no more. Using doors heavier than this will place the structural integrity of the kit in jeopardy and may ruin the system - so ensure you’re working with the right pocket door kit before beginning your work.
Should I add the soft closing mechanism to the Glide Single Pocket Door Kit?
Soft closing mechanisms are great additions to any sliding door system, as they allow for the avoidance of unwanted impacts suffered by the door during opening and closing. While most people are careful with their pocket doors, some may make the mistake of sliding the door too abruptly, which could cause damage in the long run, the same way slamming a drawer too hard would cause similar results. But soft closing and soft opening mechanisms gently slow the door down before it reaches the end of its slide, ensuring the door and all parts involved remain unscathed, potentially adding years to the life of the door and the pocket door kit.
Can the Glide Single Pocket Door Kit be installed anywhere?
As with all pocket door kits, you need to ensure the wall where you’re installing them is suitable to uphold pocket doors before making any serious alterations. The key details to look out for are whether or not the wall is thick enough to install your pocket door kit of choice, and whether or not there is the potential for a cavity to be created within a wall.
